1. Controller
The controller for the processing of personal data on this website is BHL Building Health Lab UG (haftungsbeschränkt), Danziger Straße 146, 10407 Berlin, Germany, which operates the U-Care Platform on behalf of the U-Care consortium. Contact for all privacy questions: info@buildinghealth.eu.
2. Overview
We process as little personal data as possible. You can use the platform without an account and without giving us your name. This policy explains what is processed when you visit the website, view the 360° tours, write to us or answer a feedback survey, on which legal basis, and for how long.
3. Hosting, delivery and server logs
The website is hosted by Elementor EU Ltd, Griva Digeni 42-44, 3rd Floor, Flat/Office 302, 1080 Nicosia, Cyprus (registration number HE427474), which processes this data on our behalf under its data processing terms. The servers are operated by Google Cloud; according to Elementor’s list of sub-processors, they are located in the European Union. Pages are delivered and protected through the content delivery network of Cloudflare, Inc., USA, which Elementor uses for speed and security; Cloudflare also measures traffic for this purpose without setting cookies. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
When you open a page, these services process technical data that your browser sends: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and browser and operating system. This is needed to deliver the website and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The retention period is set by Elementor; server logs are kept only as long as needed to operate and secure the website.
4. Fonts
All fonts are hosted on our own server. Your browser does not connect to Google or any other font provider.
5. Statistics
We count visits with Koko Analytics, a plugin that runs on our own website. It sets no cookies, does not store IP addresses or other personal data, and keeps only aggregated counts, such as the number of visits per page, in our own website database. No data is passed to third parties. We rely on our legitimate interest in understanding how the platform is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
6. 360° tours (Kuula)
The 360° tours are provided by Kuula, Inc., United States. A tour loads only after you agree in the box shown in its place. From then on, your browser connects to Kuula’s servers, and Kuula processes your IP address and technical data to display the tour. Because Kuula is based in the United States, this data may be transferred there. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG), which also covers the transfer to the United States (Art. 49(1)(a) GDPR). Your choice is stored in your browser only, not on our server, and applies to the whole site. You can withdraw it at any time with the “Privacy settings” link in the footer; the tours then stop loading.
The platform also stores interface settings in your browser, for example whether a panel has been opened. These settings contain no personal data and are needed for the platform to work as you use it (§ 25(2) TDDDG).
7. Contact by email
If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to answer you (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). We delete them six months after your inquiry is closed, unless statutory retention periods for business correspondence require us to keep them longer.
8. Feedback surveys
Some U-Care documents link to a short online feedback survey.
What we collect. Your answers to the survey questions: who you are in broad terms (for example planner or student), what you used the document for, how far you agree with four statements, how long each part took, and any text you write. We do not ask for your name. The time of each answer is stored with your response. If you choose to leave an email address, it is stored with your response. Like any website, the survey provider’s servers process technical data such as your IP address when you open the survey, and Google may set cookies on the survey page under its own policies.
Why. To improve the U-Care documents. We rely on our legitimate interest in improving them (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) for the survey answers, and on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) for an optional email address. You can withdraw consent at any time by writing to info@buildinghealth.eu.
Who processes the data. The surveys run on Google Forms, provided by Google Cloud EMEA Limited, Velasco, Clanwilliam Place, Dublin 2, Ireland, under Google’s data processing terms for Google Workspace. Google may process the data outside the European Union, including in the United States, under the safeguards set out in those terms.
How long. Survey answers, including an email address if you left one, are kept until the next version of the document is released, but no longer than 24 months. Then they are deleted.
Free text. Please do not enter personal data about yourself or others in the text boxes.
9. People in photos and tours
The photographs, 360° tours and InfoSlides show public streets and places. The partner responsible for each case blurs faces and license plates where people or vehicles can be recognized. If you recognize yourself or your vehicle, write to info@buildinghealth.eu and we will have the image blurred or removed. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in documenting public spaces for research and education (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
10. Your rights
You have the right to access, correction, deletion and restriction of your data, the right to object to processing based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, and the right to data portability. Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time; this does not affect processing before the withdrawal. Write to info@buildinghealth.eu. Survey answers are not linked to your name, so we can find them only if you gave us your email address.
You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit), Alt-Moabit 59-61, 10555 Berlin, Germany.
11. Security
BHL uses technical and organizational measures to protect the data it processes, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) for the whole website.
12. Changes
We update this policy when the platform or the law changes. The date at the top shows the current version.
