The Platform Workspaces
The U-Care Platform organizes all project activities into three interactive Workspaces: Research, Planning, and Design.
Each workspace provides a structured environment for analyzing, developing, and testing spatial solutions that improve urban health with climate resilience.
These workspaces reflect the complete project cycle of the UrbanCare methodology; moving from baseline assessment, to strategy development, to design proposals.

Workspace Configuration
Each workspace follows the same interactive layout:
Phases Sidebar Panel: A collapsible right-hand panel listing all three phases: Research, Planning, and Design. Each phase expands into five Boxes that organize the workflow and content.
Dashboard Area: The central display zone where dynamic content appears, such as ArcGIS maps, survey results, infographics, or risk visualizations.
Target Tabs: Floating buttons at the bottom of the dashboard representing the four mitigation targets: Walkability, Stormwater Runoff, Urban Heat, and Biotope. Each tab activates surveys or data layers related to that target.
Site Badge: Displays the active case study site (e.g., Berlin, Florence, Gothenburg, or Nicosia), ensuring users always work in the correct spatial and climatic context.

How the Project Cycle Works
Each project advances through the three workspaces in sequence.
Within every phase, the workflow is structured into five Boxes that correspond to analytical and spatial scales: from city-wide systems to street-level interventions.
Phase | Focus | Example Outputs |
---|---|---|
Research | Establishing the health and climate baseline | Input indicators, baseline maps, vulnerability analysis |
Planning | Aligning spatial strategies with health, climate, and economic goals | Stakeholder plans, scenario mapping, strategy matrices |
Design | Translating strategies into detailed spatial interventions | Output indicators, design visualizations, scenario comparisons |
Each Box serves as a modular workspace that can host data, maps, or participatory inputs.
Researchers, partners, and administrators can navigate freely among Boxes to review or update results, while the system tracks progress across the full UrbanCare cycle.
Moving Through the Workspaces
Start in Research: Collect and visualize baseline data for your case study site.
Continue to Planning: Use the findings to guide participatory discussions and strategy formation.
Advance to Design: Translate strategies into measurable spatial interventions and performance outcomes.
Throughout all phases, the same interface and color system remain consistent, reinforcing a seamless experience as you progress from analysis to action.
