Welcome to U-Care Solutions
A Platform for Healthier, Climate-Resilient Cities
The U-Care Portal provides open access to tools, methods, and case studies that guide the implementation of UrbanCare projects across Europe and beyond.
Knowledge Section: Learn How it Works
UrbanCare demonstrates that improving urban health and accelerating climate recovery require evidence-based planning at every scale.
By structuring case studies consistently, from the street level to the city scale, the framework enables research teams and municipalities to gather and compare evidence on the four mitigation targets that shape both population health and planetary recovery:
- Walkability: promoting active travel and reducing sedentary risk.
- Stormwater Runoff: restoring water cycles and managing floods through unsealing and nature-based solutions.
- Urban Heat: mitigating heat islands to protect vulnerable groups and reduce energy demand.
- Biotope Loss: restoring biodiversity and ecological continuity across urban environments.
Each case becomes a replicable evidence module, supporting integrated decision-making and long-term monitoring.
When combined across diverse climatic contexts, these cases provide the foundation for city-wide and regional strategies: turning localized findings into actionable urban policy.
The Framework for Case Structuring
UrbanCare applies a structured, four-phase workflow that moves from research and analysis to planning and design.
Each phase is organized into five Boxes that guide data gathering, stakeholder dialogue, and performance assessment.
This consistent framework ensures that findings from a single neighborhood or street can be aggregated, visualized, and compared across multiple urban contexts—making the approach scalable and evidence-driven.

U-Care Courses
U-Care is an innovative Erasmus+ project applying the UrbanCare Framework for studying and transforming urban ecosystems to enhance health across European cities with diverse climates. The mission is to integrate urban health research, neighbourhood diagnostics, and participatory decision making into higher education, preparing the next generation of urban planners and public health professionals to address the impacts of climate change on urban areas.
The project has a U-CARE LEARNING MODULE with courses for academia, open for everyone to learn about Urban Health.
The U-Care project is a collaboration among European universities, SMEs, and research start-ups, including Building Health Lab, Technische Universität Berlin, Università degli Studi di Firenze, Chalmers Tekniska Högskola, the University of Cyprus, and RESET.
